Our 10 Questions for this IT Wondrous Woman.

Fun Facts

1. What’s the one thing about you that your business colleagues don’t know about you?
I acted in a Singapore local TV drama called “Growing Up as a High School Girl” when I was studying in university.

2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
In Arcadier, probably once every 6 months, but I am on a plane every week when working in BCG, and at least once every 2 weeks on week-long trips when working in IHG as the Head of Distribution Channels.

3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
Ostrich meat in Oudtshoorn, South Africa.

Your Career

4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?

  • Learning how tough it was to manage a diverse team of 20 specialists, across 4 regional offices, being a new leader charged to drive channel revenue. I felt that I faced more failures than successes but eventually focused on my strengths and a mindset to do and change what I can.
  • Being a mother taught me tremendous patience and an important lesson to treasure the existing moments. Every win, progress, or achievement, big or small, could mean the world to someone else.

5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
First is my mother, who is my role model of how strength, independence and care are equally important. Second is Soo Earn Keoy, who taught me that a leader can be authentic, unselfish (he offered a New York opportunity although I had resigned, and that changed my career path) and inspiring.

Walking In Your Shoes

6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
The same advice I have been sticking to: Find the path that lights your passion and open your heart. All else will somehow work out.

7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
Being flexible to aid these young people in the form most suitable for them, be it coaching, mentorship, a listening ear or networking.

Today’s Business Environment

8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
Outbound' travel opportunity, from market sizing, strategy conceptualisation, and a global pilot programme roll-out. It was invaluable experience to witness an idea turning into reality and making a lasting impact.

9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
More listening and effective coaching so I can expand the horizons of those whom I care about in life and at work.

10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
How to deliver tangible customer value that fosters a foundation of trust, so my team and I could make positive and sustainable change in their sales operations as organisations face the Great Reshuffle, Sales Transformation and Hybrid Working.
