1. What’s the one thing about you that your business colleagues don’t know about you?
I never thought I would be in high tech. I wanted to be a geographer and end my career with all kinds of stones in my house.

2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
About 20K~40K, mostly for personal fun.

3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
Hot-pot in Chengdu, China.

Your Career

4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?

  • I worked with 2 professional engineers who worked over 30 years in IBM. They are still engineers, but their dedication and professionalism inspired me to want to be this kind of engineer.
  • I led a team to develop a project management tool, which failed. This told me focus is key.

5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
I was unlucky and did not have a mentor in the early part of my career, but, as I got older, I had a few good mentors who helped me to keep pursuing my dreams.

6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
Find a goal and stick to it.

7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
I am a mentor for several women, offering them advice on how to make better leadership decisions.

Today’s Business Environment

8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
Sustaining transformation for all sustaining platforms, including hardware, firmware, and software.

9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
An open mind for changes. Before the pandemic, as a technical background and hypothetical analyzer, response time for big changes was slow. However, in the current Pandemic, changes happen daily and we need faster response times.

10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
Serve growing customers with existing resources.
