Our 10 Questions for this IT Wondrous Woman.

Fun Facts

1. What’s the one thing about you that your business colleagues don’t know about you?
No one would know that I started my career as a graphic designer, working at a small design agency in Malta.

2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
In the most recent years pre-pandemic, I gave birth to twin boys, so my travel miles had already reduced. Saying that, we’ve never been the kind of company who believe we need to do loads of airmiles to work together effectively and use digital channels to speak to our clients and colleagues across the globe.

3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
When I lived in Singapore, I tried a lot of adventurous foods. Durian was one I really struggled with as I just couldn’t get over the smell.

Your Career

4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?

  • I have always been focused on marketing, but I moved from a very slow corporate world to the very fast paced working life of a digital agency. The change was scary, I was thrown in the deep end and needed to learn fast. It was my fast introduction to the world of IT/digital. It was also the best career move I ever made.

  • Growing a brand from scratch like we’ve done with Just After Midnight has been a unique experience. Seeing the journey of the brand, starting from nothing to a recognizable name in the industry globally is extremely rewarding.

5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
I feel like I’ve been very lucky and have had some great influencers and teachers in most of my roles. I’ve not always been confident, and I have had some great people driving me forward and leaving me room to make mistakes, learn and helping me believe in myself and progress in my career.

Walking In Your Shoes

6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
Never be scared to change direction!

7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
I work very closely with my team daily. We have regular weekly catch ups, but we also talk pretty much on a daily basis on Slack/Teams/Zoom etc.

Today’s Business Environment

8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
Launching and growing the Just After Midnight Brand. This year I loved working on new awards we have designed specifically to recognise developers and engineers who tend to be the unsung heroes in businesses. We want to highlight the impact these teams have on the success of businesses.

9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
Things move extremely fast in the digital space so if you stop learning you fall behind extremely quickly. So I try to ensure I spend enough time with our technology partners and agencies to keep abreast of the latest and greatest in the industry.

10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
Like most cloud focussed businesses, the main challenge right now is finding the talent to feed our growing business. The same challenges we see across our global offices.
