Fun Facts
1. What’s the one thing about you that your business colleagues don’t know about you?
I’m writing a book about my husbands’ family capturing their extraordinary stories about living in Burma during a time of great upheaval and challenges.
2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
This has varied over the years dependent on the role, after having children I tried to only fly once a month domestically.
3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
I was unaware of the contents of Black pudding during my travels in Scotland and was served up this at a northern Scottish country farmhouse. I thought it tasted pretty good, until…
Your Career
4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?
Working in agencies in Australia and in London and leading large teams at a young age taught me early on the value of empathy, leading can be lonely and you are only as good as your team. Women should move in to management early and not hold back. We have a lot to give.
My boss left the company, and I took on his role and became the leader of my peers. This was a very interesting dynamic, but what I learnt is you truly need to understand people and what they are motivated by to be a great leader.
5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
I had the opportunity to have many mentors, some informal throughout my career. One piece of advice I always loved is “everyone is your teacher”.
Walking In Your Shoes
6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
Build your network. Continually keep in touch. This is key to your longer term career opportunities, collaboration and learnings.
7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
I have an open-door policy and always approachable. This was even more important during a pandemic to stay connected to your team. I mentor a lot and I believe we should also give back.
Today’s Business Environment
8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
I had a fantastic opportunity to build and accelerate a customer transformation program across a business of 4,500 people. One of the key outcomes was improving the NPS scores by 20+ points by designing and implementing a number of key transformations across sales, delivery, digital and marketing based on client feedback.
9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
I aim to learn every day to be across the latest trends and technologies. This might be reading on the train, listening to podcast or meeting with people in the industry.
10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
I am really excited to join ServiceNow recently. ServiceNow is the fastest growing tech company over $1B and the challenge will be to continue this exponential growth in our region.
