Our 10 Questions for this IT Wondrous Woman.

Fun Facts

1. What’s the one thing about you that your business colleagues don’t know about you?
I'll give you two! 1) I speak French -- lived in Strasbourg for a year in college, and 2) I have trained for years in San Shao kickboxing.

2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
Not sure the air miles, but I am comfortable with about 25% travel and did that most years.

3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
I ate a bunch of Russian food made with aspic at a friend's big birthday. They were very excited about their native foods, so I ate it, but wouldn't have on my own!!

Your Career

4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?
The first big impact was working for so many years for Heidi Melin - she is a world class marketing leader and because I worked with her so closely and for so long (5 companies!) I was fortunate to learn many things from her. The second thing I would say is that I have spent the past 10+ years in growth stage companies, so I have learned to be light on my feet, to react to change quickly, to leverage data for decision-making whenever possible, and always to have a plan B! 2:

5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
See above, so yes to mentor! Heidi saw me very clearly and has always been honest with me about my strengths and development areas, so through the years there have been many lessons learned in this exchange. She always is kind and graceful in her business interactions-- I have tried to adopt that to my own style. I am always kind and TRY to be graceful :) Relationships last a lifetime in this business and everyone is multidimensional, so being compassionate and empathetic is an imperative to leading well. COVID has helped this to be true for many leaders this year, I think.

Walking In Your Shoes

6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
Keep doing what you love-- follow the path of your successes and passions to stay happy and busy!

7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
I keep in touch with most folks, so I make time for mentoring calls at least 2-3 a week. I participate in informal mentoring in my network and formal mentoring through Women In Revenue- an organization I helped found and still serve through board participation.

Today’s Business Environment

8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
In the last few years I have been honored to have built a marketing program for Gigster, to continue to grow the Women in Revenue community and offering and to join a new team now at Qumu.

9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
I am always learning about other approaches to common problems, and right now I have been learning a lot about product led growth. I find it fascinating!

10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
As always in a startup, there are not enough hours in the day, so staying aligned with executive leadership and squeezing the most you can out of all of your investments is always front of mind. Is this the right place to be spending time & money? Will this action drive maximum value for the customers and prospects and company?
