Our 10 Questions for this IT Wondrous Woman.

Fun Facts

1. What’s the one thing about you that your business colleagues don’t know about you?
I recently ‘retired’ from the Tech industry and plan to start my own coaching practice to service my colleagues in the Tech industry (and others).

2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
Prior to my role change almost 3 years ago, I traveled up to 70% of the time. When home, I commuted into the office 2 ½-3 hours a day for 21 years.

3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
One of the most fun foods I had was Chili Crab in Singapore. It was about the experience with colleagues!

Your Career

4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?

  • One of my all-time favorite ‘experiences’ in my journey was working with an amazing team during my 8 years leading the Cisco practice at Tech Data. I experienced true collaboration, innovation, partnership and trust.

  • One of my biggest ‘failures’ was a massive RFP I gained agreement on from our leaders to pursue. We won, but 7 months later had to pull the plug due to an oversight on their part. 45 days later I created a business plan to take this concept to an overall offering that still exists 13 years later. Fail fast and keep going with something you believe in and are passionate about.

5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
I had situational mentors a few times early in my careers. They proactively took the time to guide me with career decisions. I learned to get out of my comfort zone and stop believing I needed to be perfect before I started the job.

Walking In Your Shoes

6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
‘Angie, you don’t have to prove yourself to anyone’. This would have saved me a lot of wasted energy spent on worry and setting exceedingly high expectations on myself.

7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
I spend time with college students who are part of the Exploratory Lab Boot Camp program I co-founded 7 years ago (10th boot camp). I also mentor early in career colleagues.

Today’s Business Environment

8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
Establishing the Transformation Management Office at Tech Data and creating a team of diverse skillsets including Agile, Project Management, Robotics Process Automation and Business Analysts.

9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
I have taken courses this year including how to produce a podcast, how to self-publish my book (print on demand), how to create digital courses and how to start up a new business with integrated platforms and tools.

10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
Today I am starting my own business! My challenges are learning the different technologies to integrate my website and platforms , and staying focused on my clients and not getting distracted by everything else.
