Fun Facts

My family moved a lot when I was growing up and I lived in 5 cities during my school years, culminating in 5 different high schools in 3 different cities.
2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
I have traveled at least twice a month throughout my 35 year career with the exception of 9 years when my sons were young. Prior to COVID, I typically travelled between 80,000-120,000 miles/year.
3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
I don’t consider myself a picky eater but I’m also not that adventurous.
Your Career
4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?
The first that comes to mind is that I was pretty fearless (or dumb and lucky) early in my career and volunteered for many projects outside my expertise and education. It brought me a lot of visibility, experience, success and failure and made me confident I could learn new things as I’ve progressed in my career. The second is when I learned that it is possible to show strength and vulnerability at the same time and people really respect authenticity in their leaders.
5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
I was fortunate to have really strong mentors throughout my career. The best lesson that I learned from each of them is have confidence in myself.
Walking In Your Shoes
6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
Think BIGGER!
7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
I actively mentor early and mid-career staff inside and outside the company, supporting 4-5 individuals at any one time.
Today’s Business Environment
8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
Supporting a global retail brand through the early days of COVID to enable them to support their clients through the shutdown and beyond. COVID has brought significant innovations to business.
9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
I have an enduring focus on improving my leadership skills through listening, engaging honestly with people and supporting and growing talent. Leadership is the one skill that transcends industries and excellent leadership can change the trajectory of a life or business.
10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
The rapid pace of technology change and ensuring that our knowledge and capabilities stay relevant to our customers.
