Our 10 Questions for this IT Wondrous Woman.

Fun Facts

1. What’s the one thing about you that your business colleagues don’t know about you?
I love a good adrenaline-kick! From before turning 20 I was riding big Motorcycles, and for some time I was road racing for fun! I’ve also been doing via ferrata climbing, bungee jumping, kite surfing and running obstacle course racing (OCR) as it really makes me feel alive!

2. Before the pandemic, how many air miles/KMs did you flying annually?
I did travel regularly before the pandemic, but never really counted air miles. Now I embrace our digital capabilities for meetings but will travel from time to time still.

3. What is the most adventurous food you have eaten and what city/location did you eat it?
It must have been in Shanghai in a local café with only a Chinese menu. We used body language and pointing at others’ food to order and had an interesting meal with no idea of what we actually ate!

Your Career

4. What are the top two experiences, achievements or failures that shaped your journey as a successful leader?

  • The first achievement is when we won a great deal years ago, but the team had lost their motivation to continue in the final phase. I am quite determined, so I pushed everyone to continue, and we won in the end. It made me realize that we can make great things happen through strong leadership and motivation for others to succeed together.

  • The second is more or less the opposite. In a large deal, I realized in the middle of the process that we were not able to win. I tried to stop the case but was not able to do so. The outcome was loss, and I saw that making a hard decision to stop an important case is as important as pushing to win.

5. Did you have a mentor in the early part of your career and, if so, what is the biggest lesson you learned from your mentor or influencer?
The manager who hired me 15 years ago was also my mentor. He made an impact on me and played a strong part in shaping me and my leadership. He genuinely cared and listened to what people had to say, but he also made important decisions and showed strong leadership wherever needed.

Walking In Your Shoes

6. What is one piece of business or career advice you would give to your younger self?
Believe in yourself and go for the opportunities you get – even when you feel you are not in complete control.

7. As a leader, how do you remain a resource for people early in their careers?
I try to listen carefully to young people who are just done studying to learn from them, as their mindsets are so open. I have also been mentoring and intend to keep doing that.

Today’s Business Environment

8. What is the most interesting project you have worked on in the last few years?
It is for sure the two solutions I sold, and we developed for NOROG (Norwegian Oil & Gas Association). The first is Magnet JQS, which is a Joint Qualification System for the Norwegian Continental Shelf for thousands of suppliers. Next, Virtual Inventory supports sharing economy and saving the environment by allowing Operators on NCS to share and trade their inventory, and collaborate to mitigate the need for unnecessary inventory quantities.

9. What skills are you currently developing or refining (in yourself) that will make you a more successful leader in the digital economy?
First, I am studying the final year for Master of Management. Second, I am trying to navigate the Sovereign Cloud capabilities and how this can support our customers challenges and bring value to them.

10. What is your greatest business challenge today?
These days the biggest challenge is to get enough of the competence we need. There is a huge demand for resources and competence within tech, and it will only increase over the next few years.
